Due to the earning structure of bonus spending for supermarkets and restaurants (4x), this card is great for people to earn points through everyday spending.
Earn 35,000 bonus after spending $2,000 in three months of being approved for the card.
$250 (not waived for the first year)
4x points on US supermarkets and restaurants (including worldwide restaurants on June 6, 2019) up to $25,000 per calendar year; 3x on flights booked with airline or amextravel.com; 1x on everything else back on all purchases
$100 airline fee credit; monthly cash-back statements with Seamless, Grubhub, etc.
Beginning June 6, 2019, American Express will reward 4x Membership Rewards points for all restaurant purchases.
This is going to affect you if you travel internationally, but not earning points in international restaurants was always something I didn’t appreciate about this card.
Nevertheless, American Express taking off this restriction is a good thing.
The American Express Gold Card is one of my favorite cards. I put roughly half of my monthly spending on this card thanks to groceries and restaurants. I’ve even had American Express Offers that reward additional points at purchases at the grocery store, Trader Joes. The only negative to American Express is that it’s not as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard.
American Express Membership Rewards are a really valuable transferable point thanks to their 22 transfer partners.
